Duties:
The position is located in the Editors office on the Deputy
Director's staff. The incumbent is responsible for assisting on the
design and production of graphics and layouts published on the
National Gallery's World Wide Web site. Creates original illustration
and converts available materials to web compatible graphics. Using
HTML, incorporates graphics into layout of Web pages, including use
of HTML to create pages with tables and frames. Updates current
published graphics including banners, navigational icons, menu items,
and decorative elements. Works in collaboration with Web site
production specialist to update graphics of time sensitive materials
such as those related to exhibitions and events. Gathers photographic
materials from various departments Gallery-wide to be scanned into
digital images.

Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the "Qualifications Standards Handbook"
requirements for GS-1084-9. This requires at least 1 year of
specialized experience equivalent in responsibility to the GS-7 level
in the Federal service or two years of graduate education or a
Master's degree with a major in graphic design. Specialized
experience is experience involving Web page design.

Federal status candidates must also meet the time-in-grade
requirements of having been at the GS-7 level for at least one year.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to describe their possession of
these factors in a supplement to their applications:
1) Skill in the use of a Macintosh computer system, Adobe photoshop,
conversion methods of images in Web compatible graphics, and HTML.

2) Knowledge of VR technology and the ability to color correct
digital scans.

3) Ability to plan and organize work effectively to adhere to tight
deadlines and responsibility for numerous projects simultaneously.
