MESDA Conference on American Material Culture
October 28-30, 2010
At the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center
Madison, Georgia

The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts will hold the seventh biennial
MESDA Conference on American Material Culture October 28-30, 2010 at the
Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in Madison, Georgia. The MESDA conference is
the only major forum for scholarly interaction on American material culture.

The conference features more than a dozen papers in sessions moderated by
Dr. Bernard L. Herman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
Dr. Maurie D. McInnis of the University of Virginia, and Dale L. Couch of
the Georgia Museum of Art. Dr. Herman will deliver the conference keynote:
"Provoked by Things: Objects and the Historical Imagination."

On the final day of the conference three "rambles" to important private and
public collections will give participants an opportunity to explore the
diverse material culture of the Georgia Piedmont.

Registration - which includes the keynote address, an evening reception, all
paper sessions, and lunch on Friday - is $145 ($120 for Friends of MESDA,
$50 for students). Saturday rambles are $85 and include transportation,
lunch, and an evening reception. Dinner Friday night at historic Bonar Hall
is $50 ($35 for students) by separate reservation.
