                UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND MUSEUMS

The University of Richmond is a dynamic, thriving private
institution with 2,800 full-time undergraduates in the School of Arts and
Sciences, E. Claiborne Robins School of Business, and Jepson School of
Leadership Studies. Our School of Law and graduate programs enroll another
1,500 students. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Nation's
top universities and recently named the most beautiful campus in the nation
by the Princeton Review, Richmond boasts a rich and innovative academic
tradition. Located in a park-like 350-acre campus in the suburbs of
Richmond, Virginia, the University is financially secure with a current
endowment of approximately one billion dollars. Richmond is the state
capitol, located 90 miles south of Washington, DC, and the metropolitan area
has over one million residents.

The University is seeking an experienced curator to be part
of its University Museums, which includes the Marsh Art Gallery, the Harnett
Print Study Center, and the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature. As
curator of exhibitions and collections, this person will work with the
natural sciences and related objects along with the fine arts, decorative
arts, and cultural artifacts that comprise the collections and missions of
the three university museums.

As curator, primary responsibilities will be organizing
exhibitions and public programs, researching and developing installations of
the permanent collections, and cultivating collectors in the natural
sciences and the visual arts. Duties include exhibition and program
planning, resource and donor development, fundraising and grantwriting,
developing and overseeing exhibition and project budgets, participating in
educational programs, and representing the museums and the University to
scholarly and academic communities as well as the general public. Along with
exhibitions, the curator will also be involved in acquisitions, cataloguing,
publications, care of collections (working with the Collections Manager),
and supervising student workers and research. Reports to the Executive
Director, and as part of the museums' senior administration this person will
be involved in overall programming and development of the University
Museums.

Qualifications include at least four years of relevant
museum experience and an advanced degree in museum studies, natural sciences
(preferably with an interest in mineralogy or related areas), art history,
fine arts, or related field. Should be an effective communicator, able to
work with a variety of constituencies both within (including students,
faculty, and staff) and beyond the university community. Computer skills
necessary, and familiarity with collections database and website
presentation desirable. Must enjoy collaborative approach and working in a
university environment, must have good public communication skills and
strong interpersonal and organizational ability.

Submit cover letter, resume, salary history and expectation,
samples of published scholarship, and names of references. Salary is
competitive, and the University offers an excellent benefits package. Review
of applications will continue until the position is filled. Apply Human
Resource Services, Attn: Janet Ragusa, University of Richmond, VA 23173.
