The database I want to set up would merely incorporate the data on our
patron registration forms so I can access that information later. Like at
Monthly Report time and for grant application purposes.
We basically record each patrons visit(s) so we know who's coming in, where
they're from, members/non-members, K-12 and college students, agency use of
our collections, etc., etc., plus we want to track what's being researched,
what parts of our collection are being used and what the research is for
(school project, genealogy, historical research like a book or article,
information needs from government agencies and the like.)
One reason I want to track each patron's visits is so that if we see a
pattern, we can anticipate their needs and be able to better assist them in
the future. Or even provide information as we come across it.

That's all.

"The ordinary distinctions in society are often vague, and imply no just
pre-eminence: rank and titles are
adventitious things and instead of designating merit or virtue, are
frequently the baubles of imbecility, or
the sparkling decorations of meretricious pageantry"

Subject: Patron Tracking Database

> Pardon my ignorance, but what does a patron tracking database do? Does it

record
