POSITION AVAILABLE:  Interpretive Graphic Designer

Classification:  Part-time/Non-exempt

Department:  Interpretation and Exhibits

General Summary: 
Function as a key member of the Interpretation and Exhibits team by
developing and designing displays, signs, and other graphic materials to
support a variety of temporary and long-term interpretive projects
including exhibits, educational programs, and special events.
 
Job Qualifications: 
Previous Training and Experience 
Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Commercial Art or
related field required, with at least one year of experience with
exhibit/interpretive materials design.  Must possess competency in both
two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, and proficiency in
QuarkXpress, Adobe products, and Macintosh Operating Systems.  Knowledge
of exhibit materials and substrates is essential.  Experience in a
public garden, zoo, or museum setting is preferred.  Illustration or
technical drawing skills highly desirable, as well as knowledge of
plants, natural history, or gardening.

Physical/Mental Requirements
This position requires the ability to effectively communicate with a
wide variety of staff, customers, volunteers, and vendors.  Must be able
to prioritize simultaneous projects to meet ongoing deadlines, and work
independently and as part of a team.  The ability to generate creative
design solutions that convey content in engaging ways is essential.

Working Conditions
Combined indoor/outdoor setting.
Requires prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
