We have numerous hands-on interactive components with loose parts
in our museum. We've tried many different things over the years for
keeping the items "attached" to their respective display, from ropes to
metal cable to monofilament (weed-eater!) line.

None of them seem to work particularly well. The rope tends to fray
and break, and also looks pretty dirty after a short while. The cable
tends to twist and become deformed to a point where it's unusable.
And the mono line has reportedly caused cuts on little fingers (like a
paper cut).

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions? I thought about
phone cord...has anyone ever tried that?

Thanks!
