There is a book about a town that had much the same problem. It was
invaded by wasps. To solve their problem the townsfolk baked a huge loaf
of bread, cut one slice from it (about a quarter acre in area), and covered
it with strawberry jam. When the wasps settled in for their feast, they
lowered the second slice of bread onto the first, trapping the wasps
within. The book is called "The Giant Jam Sandwich," and it is suitable
for 4 year olds and their parents. The name Janet Borroughs comes to mind,
she may be the author.

I hope this helps.
