Barnes Foundation 'lost' priceless art

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Artwork by Renoir and Matisse, among
others -- all part of the renowned Barnes Foundation art collection --
have reportedly disappeared.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said a spokesman for the collection of
impressionist and post-impressionist art revealed the missing items
during Wednesday court testimony. The trial concerns the foundation's
request to void restrictions left by founder Dr. Albert Barnes and
move its Merion, Pa., collection into Philadelphia.

The foundation's executive director, Kimberly Camp, testified a
Renoir ceramic, a Henri Matisse piece, a cache of Negro spiritual
sheet music and Negro spiritual 78-rpm records, s, plus "hundreds of
things" are missing.

The newspaper said it was unclear whether the missing items were
stolen or when they might have been removed. Camp said some items may
have been missing for decades.

Part of the Barnes' petition claims the foundation is no longer
capable of operating at its suburban Philadelphia location.
