Keep in mind. . .

- The person who is hiring you (generic you) is looking for someone
to fill a particular position, or they wouldn't have gone to all the trouble
of interviewing, etc.  So it is important that folks only take a position if
they think it is something they can do and be happy with for a period
of time. . . at my museum, we expect folks to put  in at least six
months in  the  job they were hired for before being considered for
another position. . .

- As an  employer some of the most unhappy situations I have been
in were when someone took a position they really didn't want so they
could get their foot in the door, and then within the first few months
were complaining because we weren't putting them  in a position that
could make better use of their talents. . . paying one's dues, means
paying one's dues. . .

- I guess what I'm really saying is, that in most institutions there is a
lot of room for growth and advancement for talented people, just be
realistic and don't expect it too quickly.
