The 2002 Winedale Museum Seminar will be held November 3-12 at the Winedale
Historical Center near Round Top, Texas. The seminar is a comprehensive 8
day residential professional development program. It is designed to meet
the need for continued education that extends beyond the confines of
academic degree programs and annual conferences. The program is fashioned
to help long-term volunteers and professionals who are responsible for
multiple jobs at their museums.

Seminar goals include offering an overview of various areas of museum work
and assisting participants in developing a network of professional
colleagues for continued contact. Individual and group projects, hands-on
activities, discussion groups and lectures are integral parts of the
curriculum which covers grant writing, fund raising, basic administration,
object study, historic photographs, exhibit design and fabrication,
conservation, program evaluation and educational programming. A field trip
to San Antonio provides an opportunity to analyze exhibits while
interacting with museum staff and discussing observations related to
seminar topics.

Twenty participants are selected from applications due September 23,
2002. Participants live dormitory style at the Winedale Historical
Center. The peaceful environment creates an ambiance noted for enhancing
concentration on seminar issues while enabling participants to relax and
escape the stressful pressures of the workplace.

Applicants must be professional staff members or experienced volunteers in
museums or historical organizations. A registration fee of $600 covers the
cost of room and board and seminar materials.
