I have to say that I am relived and overjoyed to see that so many
in the museum profession watch the Simpson's. I have always contended
that the Simpson's is a "thinking person's" show, and contains the
self-effacing humor we all need.
My personal favorite involves Bart's school field trip to old Fort
Springfield (a Civil War battle site). As Principle Skinner's financially
strapped students attempt to sneak a peek over the fence, one of the
reenactors yells, "Hey, they're trying to learn for free." The reenactors
then proceed to "use their phoney guns as clubs" and chase the children
away.
We can never afford to take ourselves too seriously.
