Dear Colleague:

Each year in October the Governor of Missouri recognizes a few individuals
who have made important contributions to their schools or the community's
cultural life. The Governor's Humanities Awards reflect achievements in
history, cultural heritage, and literature.

The Missouri Humanities Council brokers the nominations for these awards.
We invite you to submit nominations of one or more outstanding individuals
in the following categories:

The Community Heritage Award goes to a person who has made a special
contribution to a community's understanding of its heritage. The Public
Involvement Award goes to a person who has been exemplary in developing
public interest in the activities of a museum, a historic site or house, or
historical society, or who has generated exceptional public interest in
history or literature in some other way. The Excellence in Secondary
Education Award goes to one or more teachers of English, history, languages,
or social studies, grades 9-12, in Missouri's public or private schools.

Nominations should be sent to the Missouri Humanities Council, 543 Hanley
Industrial Court, Suite 201, St. Louis, MO 63144-1905. Send the following
information by June 1, 2000:

· Nominee's name, address, and daytime telephone number
· One-page statement of the reasons for the nomination
· Signatures and daytime telephone numbers of the person nominating and two
supporters
· Supporting material (newspaper clippings, brochures, etc.)

Submission materials will not be returned. Please do send originals.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions about this process.

Sincerely yours,

Robin Le Van
