Hello, everyone! Deadline for the following programs are rapidly approaching (see our website for greater detail) for the following programs!
If you are, or know of, a small museum in Missouri who is looking to either host an exciting new Smithsonian touring exhibition or examine ways
of improving your museum, please go to the Missouri Humanities Council's website at www.mohumanities.org The Council is currently
accepting applications for the statewide tour of PRODUCE FOR VICTORY, America on the Homefront in WW11. This exciting exhibition offers
up to six host sites the opportunity to involve their communities in exploring their participation in the war effort, both then and now. This exhibit is
particularly relevant in post-9/11 America as it offers the chance to discuss mobilization of citizens, the rise of nationalism, homefront activity and
its impact. In WW11, Japanese-Americans suffered devastating confinement in internment camps as a result of Japan's attack on American
soil. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, are Middle Eastern-Americans are suffering more subtle forms of the same sort of discrimination?
This exhibit is available, in a competitive process, to up to six sites for up to six weeks each. There is no direct cost for hosting the exhibition,
but substantial in-kind involvement is required.
The Council also hosts up to four museum workshops for small museums per year. Called charettes, there intensive two day workshops team
consultants with museum staff, boards of directors and community leaders to discover innovative solutions to problems confronting the institution.
Is your museum rapidly become the community store house and losing sight of your mission in collecting? Are you unable to store your
collections safely and securely? Is your board unwilling to support the need for greater community involvement? These are a small sampling of
challenges the charettes have adressed in the past. For a greater sence of the process, please see our website at www.mohumanities.org
Applications for both programs are available there. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions you may have.
Thank you!
