Educator—-Tour Guide and Volunteer Manager

Description and Qualifications:
Levine Museum of the New South seeks a creative, motivated, outgoing
individual to fill the full-time position of Tour Guide and Volunteer
Manager. This position will be responsible for recruiting and training tour
guides and staff to provide guided experiences in the Museum’s core exhibit
and traveling exhibits as needed. In addition, this position is responsible
for our CMS mandated 8th grade field trip and will develop and conduct tours
and in-gallery programs for groups of adults and children. The position
calls for the development of educational materials including displays,
audiovisual materials, newsletter articles, brochure text and other resource
materials. 

The successful candidate should possess a genuine desire to teach history to
all ages and be comfortable interacting with large groups of people. They
should be talented at managing people, diplomatic and flexible. They should
be familiar with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study Curriculum.
This person will be one of four in the education and programming department
and report to the Director of Education and Programs. The successful
candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in education, history, museum
studies or the humanities, along with experience working with youth.
Familiarity with learning theory and informal education techniques is
desirable. This position will require work on some evenings and weekends.
