If the wrap in question is a shrink-wrap, similar to that used in the
kitchen, then it would be very inappropriate to use that in intimate contact with
upholstered furniture. Such plastics contain chlorides that can easily corrode
metal components (such as brass upholstery tacks, iron nails, etc.). This could
also pose a problem for sensitve fabrics.

Your best bet is to stick with polyethylene or even better thin volora foam
as a wrapping. Even unbleached muslin would be a better choice then a plastic
of unknown composition.
