Hi all,
Our curator of Archaeology has the following question:

Does anyone have experience dealing with the issue of how to
establish a value, for insurance purposes, of scientific collections?
We have always maintained for insurance purposes that the appropriate
basis for establishing the value of archaeological collections is the
cost of doing an equivalent excavation today using the standards for
modern excavation, analysis, and curation. We are now in the position
of having to justify this approach as part of a claim. Any
information about how other institutions deal with these issues would
be appreciated. I am particularly interested in written policies from
professional organizations.

Thanks,
Angela
