  My personal feeling is that Segways are used by people who are too
traumatized by the thought of using electric scooters (which have more
carrying space and don't seem likely to fall over every second) even
though Segways are awkward and look so threatening. By the way, there
are very small electric scooters that might work very well in a house. I
met a woman in an airport who has one she says she can fold up and store
on board the plane--she says she's traveled everywhere with it.
