I work for a small historical society in Connecticut that is repeatedly asked
to take positions in favor of various preservation issues--preserving open
space from golf course development, opposing the construction of a house on
water-front land. Our board would like to develop a position statement, and
perhaps even add a phrase to our mission, to prevent us having to make a
decision every time an issue becomes hot.

Are there historical societies or museums who have developed such a position
statement, or have a mission that clearly includes historic and natural
resource preservation? If so, could you send me a copy of that statement so
I could pass it on to our board. I am not on the list, so please respond to
me personally.

Thanks for your help.
