ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD:
Silver, Pewter, and Copper Alloys at Historic Deerfield
Saturday, April 10, 1999

www.historic-deerfield.org

American metalware is the topic of this year's Decorative Arts Seminar on
Saturday, April 10 with Donald R. Friary, Executive Director; Philip Zea,
Deputy Director and Curator; and Amanda Lange, Assistant Curator.

The program will focus on the strengths of Historic Deerfield's metalware
collection: silver, pewter, and copper and its alloys.

Participants will hear lectures on Historic Deerfield's outstanding
collection of American silver, especially in the area of New England
silver; Samuel Pierce, the Greenfield pewterer and his tools; and the
production and importation of copper, brass, and bronze in the Connecticut
River Valley. A visit to the Flynt Center of Early New England Life, a
hands-on session in the Silver Collection, and a workshop on finishing
pewter spoons are included in the program's special events.

Note: Those coming from a distance may wish to stay overnight at the
Deerfield Inn. For reservations, please call (413) 774-5587.

Cost: $75.00 per person for non-members ($65 for Friends of Historic
Deerfield.) The registration fee includes lecture and museum admissions,
coffee, lunch, tax, tip, tea, and a $10 tax-deductible gift to Historic
Deerfield, Inc.

Cancellations: The registration fee will be refunded if cancellation is
made before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 1999.
