We are in the process of redoing our web site to increase its hit count, and
then looking to sell site and page sponsorships on it. Are any other
museums doing this, and if so, what are the fees, logistics, and caveats of
doing it? To aid in structuring any responses, please use the questions
below...and email me privately to avoid annoying the list.

1. Your name:
        Your institution:
Your email address (may we contact you?):
        URL of your home page:
        Approximate monthly hit count:

2. Do you sell sponsorships on your web site? If not, why not? Please
discuss both philosophical and practical reasons. (then you may skip the
rest of the questionnaire ... thanks for your time!)

3. What departments or positions are involved in actively selling
sponsorships? Approximately how many hours per week of staff time does it
take to cultivate the relationships and sell the sponsorships?

4. Do you sell web site sponsorships separately from other sponsorships
(such as for programs or straight advertising) or do you offer a web
sponsorship as part of other sponsorship arrangements?

5. What fees do you charge for sponsorships/advertising on the web
site? Are they based on time (i.e. how many weeks/months the ad is on the
page), space (i.e. how large the ad is), links (i.e. do you charge more for
a link than a display), placement (i.e. is it more money to be on the home
page than on a subsidiary page, or on top vs. on the bottom), or a
combination thereof? Please provide an idea of the rate structure and range
of fees for straight advertising, or what a sponsor could expect for a
certain level of sponsorship.

6. Can you provide us with other information, tips, caveats, or
suggestions that we should consider before undertaking this venture?

Thank you in advance for your time. I will provide a summary of responses
to the list when all is said and done.

Sincerely,

Julia Muney Moore
