Can anyone help me. I need to write a paper on a
collector and his/her collection for my assessed piece
of work. I have decided on the person and the
collection, but this is my difficulty, I cannot
remember the man's name nor the exact country he came
from. All I know is that he was/is the curator of a
small museum in one of the Independant States of the
Former Soviet Union (I think it may have been either
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan, but I'm not
100%).
Basically, from what I can remember, this man had
spent most of his career collecting and rescuing art
that had been banned by the Soviet government. Because
he lived in such a remote area he was able to do this
without being discovered and it has only been recently
that this unique collection of art has been
discovered.
This man risked everything, including, possibly, his
life, to preserve works of art that would otherwise
have been destroyed. I heard about the article quite
some time ago, but I have been unable to find it
since. I have contacted the paper that published it
but I would appreciate any info that anyone on the
List could give me.

Many thanks

Emma B
