Education Director
Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington


The Education Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and
implementing cultural, educational, and interpretive programs and special
events for adults, children, families and educators.  Specific tasks and
responsibilities include:

· Coordinating and budget curriculum development, special events and other
programs within the context of the strategic plan
· Manage and train volunteer docents and interpreters
· Coordinate JHSGW education programs with congregations, religious school,
day school, private and public school educators and programs sponsored by
other organizations
· Create and manage learning areas for galleries and exhibits devoted
including interpretive programs about the historic synagogues and sanctuaries
· Develop JHSGW curricula, educational publications and off-site learning
resources
· Assist in applying for funding and grants as necessary for educational
programs
· Represent the Society and Museum in the community and professional
organizations
· Staff the JHSGW Education/Program Committee
· Undertake other special projects and duties assigned by the JHSGW
Executive Director
· Supervise and make hiring suggestions for staff responsible for providing
program assitance

The Education Director is supervised and reports to the Executive Director
and collaborates with the Curator/Archivist and other staff as needed.   The
Education Director supervises a Program Assistant, docents, volunteer
interpreters, and Museum Assistants with regard to educational content.

Position is fulltime with a good benefit package.  Position requires at
least five years experience; MA in museum education preferred.
