Conservation and Art Materials Encyclopedia Online (CAMEO) is
pleased to announce the release of its new upgraded version at
<URL:http://www.mfa.org/cameo>. CAMEO is a searchable encyclopedia
developed at the Conservation and Collections Management Department
at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. CAMEO contains chemical,
physical, visual, and analytical information on over 10,000 historic
and contemporary materials used in the conservation, preservation,
and production of artistic, architectural, and archaeological
materials.

Additions to the new CAMEO include:

    * Faster searching and easier navigation tools, such as tabbed
entry pages at the top edge of each page. Users can select
Search or Browse tabs to obtain information on materials.

    * A separate database containing a worldwide list of
        conservation related organizations (Directory tab).

    * New breadcrumb trails near the top of each page allow the
user to return to previously viewed pages.

    * Over 1000 material records now contain hyperlinks to connect
the user with online MSDS sheets and manufacturer's web
        sites.

    * Each material record now has right side tabs to move between
its Description, Authority, and Image pages.

    * Authority pages provide the user with a list of sources
researched to generate the information in the record.

    * Image pages include visual information on materials such as
        drawings, photographs, micrographs, chemical structures,
        spectra, tables, chromatograms, etc.

    * Printable format options are available on all information
        pages.

CAMEO welcomes all submissions. For text corrections or additions,
please use the Submit tab. For image submissions, please email
[log in to unmask] with the image as an attached file (JPEG, TIFF, or GIF
[<1mb]). The email should include a complete description of the
image along with appropriate credits. If the image is from your
product's web site, please include the link to the web site.
