The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) is seeking a full-time Curator of
Film to begin immediately.  The position reports to the Museum Director.

Responsibilities include:  Responsible for establishing a new curatorial
program covering the history of film and video from its early inception to
the present day.  Program is expected to encompass worldwide artistic
endeavors in the media. Responsible for programming, scheduling, and
overall management of on-site, state-of-the-art theater, and for scheduling
and supervision of a part-time or contract projectionist and other related
staff. Responsible for integration of programming efforts with the Curator
of Photography and the Curator of Education.  Coordinates with Development
staff regarding film and video exhibitions and special event-related
funding strategies.  Is responsible for representing the Museum and the
film program to the local, regional, national, and international public and
to the film communities.

Qualifications:  The top candidate will be innovative, energetic, and
aggressively interested in creating and polishing a new program in film.
This individual will have abundant capacity to bring talents and contacts
to bear on the innovative opportunities presented in creating a new museum
program.  Masters Degree in the History of Film or a related discipline.
Knowledge of museum operations with experience in curatorial department
preferred.  Management and budget planning experience required.  Superior
interpersonal and problem solving skills; must be a team player.  Knowledge
of fine art photography and video and computer literacy required.
Additional languages preferred.

Salary/Benefits:  As a full-time employee, the Curator of Film will be
provided with a group health plan; option to participate in an employee-
funded tax sheltered 403b retirement plan through payroll deductions;
museum store discount; museum i.d. valid at all Balboa Park museums and the
San Diego Zoo.  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
