The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced
the publication of application guidelines containing new
deadlines and priorities for its Division of Public
Programs. The key changes are as follows:

Instead of having separate guidelines for each of the
Division of Public Programs' four program areas (Libraries
and Archives, Media, Museums and Historical Organizations,
and Public Humanities Projects), there will now be only one
set of guidelines for all four of these programs.

The deadline for application for all public humanities
programs is Dec. 6, 1996, with awards to be announced in
July 1997. The deadline for preliminary applications is
          Oct. 25, 1996.

The new priorities include emphases on national significance
          or impact; reach to new, expanded or diversified audiences;
          collaboration among cultural institutions and
organizations; and use of multiple formats or new
          technologies for public programs.

For prospective applicants interested in discussing the
guidelines, the NEH this fall will hold four one-day
meetings, each in a different region of the country, to
introduce the new guidelines and priorities of its Division
          of Public Programs.

The regional meetings are scheduled for New York City,
Sept. 20; Dallas, Sept. 27; San Francisco, Oct. 4; and
          Chicago, Oct. 11.
