INVITATION TO MEETING

The Consortium for the Computer Interchange of Museum Information (CIMI)
<http://www.cimi.org/cimi> invites interested persons to a half-day
technical information session on the CIMI Z39.50 Profile and the CIMI SGML
DTD for Museum Collections Information.

The meeting will also include an overview of CIMI's Project CHIO
<http://cypress.dev.oclc.org:12345/CHIO>, CIMI Profile implementation
plans, continuing work on SGML and other information related to networked
access to cultural heritage information such as museum metadata issues (see
tentative agenda below).

There is no fee for this meeting.


Please Note:
CIMI is also sponsoring a full day workshop/tutorial on the CIMI SGML DTD.
People specifically interested in SGML might prefer to register for this
workshop.  There is a fee for the SGML workshop as it is part of the MCN

WHERE and WHEN

The CIMI technical meeting will be held 1- 6:00 pm on the afternoon of
Wednesday Oct 30, 1996 immediately prior to the Museum Computer Network
(MCN) annual conference in Ottawa, Canada.

Specific directions for the meeting will be provided to those persons
interested in attending.  Please RSVP to John Perkins
([log in to unmask]), by October 4, 1996.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The meeting is intended for anyone interested in technical information on
the use of SGML or the Z39.50 information retrieval protocol for search and
retrieval of cultural heritage information.

The meeting is especially relevant to museum systems vendors and
developers, systems vendors who already support Z39.50 profiles, and to
museums who would like to use or who have plans to implement Z39.50 or SGML
capabilities.  A number of experts on Z39.50 and SGML will be present as
resource persons.

 The meeting will include presentations, discussions, and question and
answer periods.
