I don't mean to offend anyone, but please don't make this list the
recipient of other lists unless they're calls for papers or
conference/meeting announcements; just tell us in your signature.

Also, take a second to consider if your posting is of interest to a group
on the list: if you want someone to send you something or something like
that, reply to THAT PERSON, not to the list.

No offense to anyone in particular, and sorry to do this. I think there
are some really good/interesting threads going on here, but they also get
obscured by things that are irrelevant.

By the way, for those of you in the St. Louis conversation and AAM 2001
attendees, you might want to take a look at _High Art Down Home: An
Economic Ethnography of a Local Art Market_ by Stuart Plattner. While I
think he could have done a better job portraying the society of SLAM and
its role in the community, and that St. Louis is definitely not a "typical
midsized" art scene (not by a LOOOONG shot if they get AAM 2001), and that
he is too quick to eschew his insider status, this is an excellent
ethnography. (I'm interested in studying the culture of museums from an
anthropological viewpoint).

love art!
