I never read the original post, but here's my $0.02

A daily journal is a great idea for all staff--not just administrators.  A
colleague recommended keeping simple notes about the day's activities (whom
you met with, what you thought about, how long you spent working on each
project...)  right in your daily planner/calendar, and I have found this to
be extremely helpful.  I've relied on these notes to support my claims of how
long it really takes to put together an exhibit, of how much of my day is
taken up by behind-the-scenes work or in responding to visitor queries, etc.
 So, as long as you're not into the Bob Packwood/Richard Nixon kind of thing,
your journal can be a powerful ally.
