Responsibilities? Manage the day-to-day operations of the
museum, including staff and volunteers. Responsible for the
budget and financial matters. Reports to a board or city/museum body of
officers/trusteees. Delegates tasks and monitors operations. Serve on
committes, and so forth. Represents the museum to the community. In Bryant
F. Tolles, Jr. (ed), LEADERSHIP
FOR THE FUTURE, adds that directorial roles include exhibition and
educational interpretation, also development and conservation. The manager
is an initiator of professional standards and training. Serves as an
intellectural leader and educator. He/She/they (watch the gender issue)
serves as a legal guardian, an organizer and energizer for planning, an
internal communicator; the fiscal, facilities and security manager -- in
short a director/museum managers positon is a multifaceted role, especially
in a small museum.

Certain tasks would also depend on the mission, board and/or
budget of the museum, size of staff, etc. and responsibilities
may increase/decrease.
