The Lake Placid (NY) Center for the Arts did this very recently with
Adirondack chairs. About 20 or more chairs were given to different artists
to paint/decorate (probably with a particular theme), the chairs were
displayed somewhere, and then the chairs were auctioned off as a benefit
(for the art center, I assume). I saw one of the chairs exhibited as part of
the decor in a local Lake Placid restaurant after the auction. It was great!

You could contact the center at www.lpartscenter.org to ask how they did it.
They also produced a wonderful, colorful poster showing all the chairs that
they sell for $16. That may be a great auxiliary way to make more funds and
let those who can't afford to buy a chair still have the fun of having a
colorful memory of the event. NP
