You should be aware of The Revised Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging
published by AltaMira Press in cooperation with the American Association for
State and Local History (commonly referred to as Nomenclature). It was
developed by an AASLH committee in the late 1980s and was revised in 1995.
Some collections management software (PastPerfect, for example) are designed
to use this system.
