I've had pretty good luck with the matte (vs. glossy) label material for
laser printers, tho' you can see where the wall stops and the label begins.
It works best directly on a flat, latex-painted wall (as opposed to
something highly textured, like stucco). Also, you can take gator foam or
some other backing, paint it to match your wall or case color, and the
color comes thru when burnished down. The clear kind is good for mounting
directly to plexi; I prefer to print it as a mirror-image and set it
inside, away from scraping fingernails. AND, you can use the same
mirror-print technique, place it on the back of a 1/16th lexan or plex, cut
to exactly the same size (or vice-versa), and tacked on with little brass
nails. The surface is then clean, smooth, and resists pesky fingernails
and switchblades...Well, fingernails, anyway.
