The University Museum announces the Charles Thomas Pearson Internship for
graduate sutdents in museum studies.  The Charles Thomas and Mary Alice
Pearson Educational Foundation, Inc., sponsors this award.  The Pearson
Intern will work in the museum's Discovery Room, which features hands-on
experiences for children in grades K-5.

Responsibilities:
The intern will assist with day-to-day operations, develop programs, and
coordinate volunteers for the Discovery Room under the direction of the
Discovery Room Coordinator.  Some weekend work will be required.

Scope:
In addition to work in the Discovery Room, the intern will have an
opportunity to become acquainted with other museum operations such as
education, exhibits, and collections management.

Eligibility:
Sudents must be enrolled in, or have completed course work for, the Master
of Arts program with a specialization in museum studies at either the
University of Arkansas or at another educational institution.  Preference
will be given to upper-level candidates.

Diration and stipend:
The ten-month half-time intenship will run from September 1, 1998 to June
30, 1999.  The Stipend will be $9,500.

Application Requirements:
Each candidate, in keeping with the charles Thomas and Mary Alice Pearson
Educational Foundation's interest in community ethics, will submit a four-
to five-page double-spaced essay on some aspect  of ethics in the museum
field of study.  in addition, each candidate will submit a cover letter,
resume including relevant course work and job experiences, and three
letters of recommendation.  Please send these materials as soon as possible
