Rich-
When I submitted writing samples last year coming out of graduate school I
selected a variety of types of examples. For example I included my
prospectus for a Master's Thesis (which I didn't actually have to write),
my final History paper from my BA work , my guide from the Archival
collections I had processed, and Bibliographic essay on Nitrate Film. I
felt these showed a diversity of writing ability that included research,
project completions, proposals and the finished product. I also had on hand
(at my interviews) materials from two of the exhibits that I worked as a
graduate student. This showed a wide and varied ability which is often very
beneficial in entry level positions.

It you have any questions please let me know. Hope this helps
Tracie
