Hi Tracy,

I would suggest not using Titebond hide glue, is not stable and I had some negative experiences in the mid-term (bonds unglued after some weeks).

Araldite is a brand and they sell from epoxy resin (not reversible and very stiff) to cyanoacrylate to wood glues. You are probably referring to wood glues but I don't have any relevant experience with this brand.

I would instead use fish glue or rabbit glue or hide glue (depending how strong the bond has to be). "Kremer Pigments" has a very good selection of animal glues and "Bjorn" too.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Repair of wooden objects

Good morning,

I have a wooden checkers table that has experienced some trauma and, as a result, some small pieces have detached. Is it appropriate to use a wood glue (liquid hide glue) like Titebond to reattach the pieces? I have also been looking into araldite, which appears to be more conservation-friendly. Does anyone have experience with either of these products (or others) and would like to advise? None of the pieces have to do with the table's stability.

Thank you!
