Regarding the quote, it depends on how it's used. As long as it's a general
reference and not documenting a specific battle, I wouldn't worry about it
too much. If it will directly or indirectly cause the viewer to assume the
quote is specific, I wouldn't use it. You do have to keep an eye on how
historic evidence is used. You owe it to your audience not to be misleading.

As for Civil War naming conventions, I suspect you'll get as many different
opinions as correspondents. I grew up in a border state (Maryland) and have
lived for many years in Texas. In Maryland, we tended to discuss things by
both names. In Texas, I find people are more familiar with the Southern
names. My tendency has been to consider the audience (and check the local
textbooks). Which name will they recognize?

The most important thing, I think, is to pick a convention, document it, and
stick with it. For clarity's sake, you can mention the alternate name the
first time a battle is discussed. I have seen one situation in which the
naming convention of the side which won each battle was used (confusing).
