There certainly have been instances of web sites being shut down or altered
due to copyright infringement.  There used to be a large number of sites
offering libraries of popular songs, with lyrics and chords.  The Virginia
Attorney General managed to shut one of them down, and the others seem to
have dried up (whether due to legal or fear of it, I couldn't say).
