Hi!
I wanted to add a personal note about traveling museum outreach
programs.

Previously I served as the Statewide Outreach Educator for the Museum of

New Mexico, just before the Van of Enchantment began.
I had the incredible luck of getting to travel the state solo,
delivering and picking up the many exhibits, photos, and educational
trunks that were shared from the four state museums of the Museum of
New Mexico (MNM).

I was able to visit many urban and rural communities (many isolated and
small) and was, for many of our borrowers, the "face" of the MNM. For a
variety of reasons, many of the people in distant communities would not
be able to make the trip to Santa Fe to see the museums, and it was a
great honor and thrill to be able to share many wonderful resources with

communities statewide.

I met some amazing people, visited some incredible places, and was
welcomed by very appreciative teachers, librarians, and commuity center
staffers who greatly enjoyed our materials. Truthfully, this was one of

the best experiences of not only my museum career, but of my life.

Bottom line is, I want to encourage museum programs that get out there
and share what they have. The benefits can be very positive and lasting

for both the host sites and the museum/staff involved.

All best,

Jill Hoffman, Ph.D.
