The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico seeks a
Curator of Archaeology.  Minimum requirements for the position include a
Masters Degree in Anthropology with an emphasis in Archaeology and a
minimum of 3 years experience in archaeology and archaeological
collections management.  Experience in Southwestern Archaeology is
preferred.  The position is full time, with an annual salary of between
$31,347 and $41,470, depending upon qualifications, plus benefits.

The principal duties of the position are management of the Department of
Archaeology and direction of the development, care, and use of the
University of New Mexico's archaeological collections.  The Curator must
also direct and manage compliance with state and federal law, including
managing collections held in trust for state and federal agencies, and
maintaining working relationships with those agencies.  In addition, the
Curator serves as a liaison to Native American tribes, and is responsible
for supervising NAGPRA activities as they relate to the archaeological
collections.  The Curator must also supervise and coordinate collections
management projects within the department;  oversee special project staff,
workstudy students, and volunteers;  write grant proposals; and
participate in short-and-long term planning for the department and the
museum.  Finally, the Curator will facilitate and may conduct internal and
external anthropological research.
