Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis is seeking an
anthropologically trained faculty member at an open rank to be a "Public
Scholar of Native American Representation," the first of four "Public
Scholars of Civic Engagement" to be appointed jointly in the Museum
Studies Program and other units on campus.  This faculty member will
have a joint appointment in the Anthropology Department, the Museum
Studies Program, and at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and
Western Art. The faculty member will develop collaborative projects
between the Museum and the University that engage students, contribute
to the Museum Studies and Anthropology curricula, and further the
mission of the museum. Candidates must have the academic qualifications
and achievements consistent with an appointment as a tenure-track
assistant professor or higher in the School of Liberal Arts.  Experience
in museum related work is required.  Successful candidates should have
an Anthropological focus to their teaching and scholarship in the area
of Native American representation, and may have a background in one or
more of the following: Anthropology, Native American Studies, Museum
Studies, Material Culture, and Ethnohistory. The visionary,
collaborative, and innovative nature of the Public Scholar positions
will require candidates who are experts in their disciplines and yet can
direct interdisciplinary projects such as scholarly symposia, exhibits,
and publication projects.  Candidates must be skilled in the application
of their scholarship, and able to involve, teach, mentor, and inspire
students in their public scholarship and civic engagement. They must
have the sensitivity to understand and work across organizational
cultures and boundaries, and they must have the leadership and
communication skills to build bridges among institutions.  Candidates
must also have the energy, passion, and creativity to develop new and
productive relationships and projects that will fulfill and sustain the
mission of the Public Scholars. IUPUI is located in the heart of
Indianapolis and the campus adjoins the White River State Park, home of
the Eiteljorg, the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, and other
cultural institutions. IUPUI is committed to serving the diverse

interests to complement the strengths of the campus and to serve
community needs will have a strong advantage. Position will remain open
