The Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society in Pierre seeks an
enthusiastic and creative individual with excellent design skills to join
the museum’s professional staff of four in a collaborative approach to
exhibit and website development.  The state historical society is in the
midst of a $4 million capital campaign to complete the permanent exhibits
and expand outreach through traveling exhibits, education kits, and on-line
learning experiences.  Located along the scenic Missouri River, Pierre
offers you freedom from the hassles of urban living, excellent water
sports, hiking, opportunities for wildlife observation, and some of the
finest hunting and fishing in North America.

Candidates should be able to translate interpretive ideas into exhibition
designs with appropriate models, drawings, and written instructions;
fabricate and install exhibits; work cooperatively with consulting exhibit
design and fabrication firms, exercising responsibility for design review,
installation monitoring, and quality control; design brochures, posters,
and related materials; and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
Candidates should be familiar with exhibition and graphic design techniques
and tools, including CAD, graphic, and desktop publishing software;
lighting systems; exhibit security and conservation requirements; website
design and development; estimating, budgeting, and bidding practices; ADA
standards; and museum philosophy, professional practices, and ethics.

The starting salary is $23,920-$25,064 depending on qualifications, with
full benefits.  Finalists will be asked to submit a portfolio and a writing
