Qualifications 
       

MA or MLS in archival administration or library science or history or
equivalent experience required. Knowledge of the history of medicine or
science preferred, but not required. The position will report on a daily
basis to the chief archivist. Work sites include Washington DC and
Montgomery County, MD and require an automobile.

Position description 
       

Entry-level position in arranging and describing a medical photography
collection in a museum. The goal is to identify and catalogue images of
historical or medical interest for scanning.
Responsibilities will include archival collection management,
photographic selection, cataloguing and data entry, and processing
images for scanning. A large collection of over 1,000,000 images from
1945-2000 will be surveyed to identify appropriate images of historical
or scientific significance for a scanning project. In cooperation with
the existing Archives staff, data located on the envelop containing the
image, and/or on the image itself, will be transcribed into an existing
database. The images will then be segregated for an off-site scanning
project. When the images have been scanned and returned, the data will
be checked and finalized, the original image matched to the scanned
image and the data, and the image returned to its original location. The
work should be checked for accuracy for each picture.
