If you are interested in staying in the Midwest to Western United
States, there are plenty of Museum Studies programs you might consider.
The University of Nebraska has a Museum Studies program, and the
University of Missouri St. Louis recently established a MA in History
with a Museum Studies focus. Would you consider going further west? If
so, look into Texas Tech, University of Arizona, University of Denver
CO, and University of Colorado, Boulder.

Regardless of what program you choose, I'd urge you to select a program
that will allow you to gain hands-on experience. For example, if you
choose an Anthropology, History, or Historic Preservation program get
involved with the local historic museums in your area. An internship at
a museum specializing in your specific area of interest (historic
archaeology, western expansion, and military history) can make a world
of difference.

Good luck.
