If your museum has more than the usual shelf of reference books, and might have books and other library resources not normally found in your region, and if you would allow the public access to this material, you should think beyond internal book cataloging. Consider joining your local or regional library council or system. Most of these systems are State-funded and coordinated, and have the ability to catalog your materials in large computer-accessible systems, some Internet-accessible, thus making your materials much more widely known. Membership fees should be minimal given the small number of books that a museum library usually owns and generally small museum budgets.

While you are making suggestions for collections management software, I have
a question. I would like to find (if possible) a software package for a
small museum that does the usual collections things, can include images, and
(here's the tricky part) can be used to catalogue our art library. Is this
asking too much?
