Director. The Smoky Hill Museum seeks an experienced and highly motivated
leader to move the organization into the new century. Ten year old
institution is newly accredited and located in Salina, Kansas, a regional
center of 43,000. A million dollar building rehabilitation recently
completed. Individual needs an appreciation of the Museum's place as an
integral part of a progressive cultural community, and be a conceptual
thinker with knowledge of sound museum practices, have excellent
communications/interpersonal skills, and be adept at handling multiple
projects and programs that are participatory and interdisciplinary.
Responsiblities include staff supervision; long and short term planning and
implementation; financial management, grant writing and fund raising in
cooperation with the Friends of the Smoky Hill Museum board; and working
productively and creatively with volunteers, government officials, and
community; and oversight of physical plant.
The Museum is a division of the Arts and Humanities Department of the City
of Salina, and operates with a staff of seven full and part-time employees
and 100+ volunteers. A history of progressive experience as a museum
director or senior staff member, and an MA in museum studies or related
field required. Salary range is $31,304 to $40,851. Starting salary is
