In cases where a Federal disaster is declared by the President, your
Private-non-profit institution may (and I stress "may") be eligible for
SOME reimbursement. These FEMA Public Assistance Program grants are
administered by the State. The best thing to do is contact your State
office of emergency management. The can explain if your particular
institution could be eligible, what types of reimbursement would be
eligible, and (importantly) what kind of accounting you would need to do
after the disaster to support your application for disaster
reimbursement funding. It is good to do this in advance of an event, so
you know. Remember, FEMA money is only available to qualifying
institutions, and only if the disaster is Federally declared.

Greetings all,

One corollary of disaster planning that I have not often heard discussed
is
the financial planning for such contingencies. Can I canvas the List
for
different approaches to this? Do you have a financial plan in event of
disasters? Is it a special fund, or provision to tap part of your
endowment? Is it a list of increasingly fervent prayers calling for
assistance from state, federal, and divine agencies? I would hate to
see
all the work that goes into a good disaster plan founder for the want of
funds.

In anticipation of your response (and anything else!),

Dorren
