I am posting this for "Artisans," please do not contact me concerning the
position. All contact information is contained in the listing. For those of
you who have never heard of Mill Valley, the only 2 cents worth I'd like to
throw in is this: Mill Valley is a beautiful town in Marin County, about a
20 minute drive (across the Golden Gate Bridge) from San Francisco. It's a
great place to live...great hiking with lots of trees (very close to Muir
Woods), fairly casual lifestyle, culturally aware and active community, and
centrally located for access to Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Sonoma,

Title:  Executive Director, full-time salaried position, starting late May 2000
Hours:  Minimum 40 hours per week, flexible schedule
Salary:  $33,280 per year; $2,775 per month
Commissions:  Commission schedule to be established and paid on grant and
corporate sponsorship donations received by Artisans as a result of the
efforts of the Executive Director
Vacation:  Credit earned at the rate of 2/3 day per month of service,
eligible after one year of service
Sick Leave:  Employee is entitled to 4 days of sick leave during the first
year of service

Artisans is a nonprofit educational arts organization located in downtown
Mill Valley. As a membership run art gallery, we have been a center for
showcasing the talents of emerging artists of our community for the past
twenty-one years. The Executive Director performs a pivotal role for the
gallery to provide consistency in daily operations and discernment in
long-range goal planning.

The Executive Director shall support and carry out the policies and
programs adopted by the Board of Directors, shall manage and run the
day-to-day operations of Artisans and supervise the volunteer staff
pursuant to policies established by the Board of Directors. Following is a
summary of the primary responsibilities for the position.

Operations
Ensures gallery is open and fully staffed during normal operating hours,
including First Tuesdays and other special events. Ensures each artist
member fulfills obligations of membership status, including staffing and
payment of dues. Trains, as needed, artist members and volunteers in duties
necessary to staff gallery and promote sales.

Works cooperatively with Board members and Committee Chairs in order to
accomplish the goals and objectives of Artisans. Responsible for the
appearance and maintenance of the gallery, working with the landlord and
Board President. Works with the Installation and Show Committees,
overseeing the general display and adequacy of overall inventory. Serves as
primary contact for new artists seeking membership and encourages new
applications for membership. Maintains a current and accurate mailing list
of artist members, Board members, community members, volunteers and
interested clients.

Financial
Takes direction from Board Treasurer, who serves as Chief Financial Officer
for Artisans. Prepares annual budget for consideration and action of the
Board of Directors. Maintains current financial records. Must have some
experience with QuickBooks and word processing, and some familiarity with
Excel and FileMaker Pro is beneficial. Researches, writes and submits
applications for grant proposals and applies for corporate sponsorship
donations.

Responsible for completing timely posting of sales, payment of bills and
deposit of cash each day. Obtains prompt and accurate payment of artist
member payments. Administers approved budget and ensures that no
expenditures are committed to or paid unless provided for in the budget.
Responsible for the preparation and filing of necessary tax and employment
documentation as required.

Membership
Prepares and conducts the monthly artists' meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of
each mont. Provides necessary assistance to support proper functioning of
committees. Maintains current roster of committee members.

Reporting Responsibilities
Reports directly to the Board President or the President's designee. Keeps
the President fully informed on gallery activities, operational concerns
and support needs. Attends monthly Board meetings (on the 3rd Wednesday
evening of each month) and reports on the gallery's  prior month's
activities, future activities, membership status and other operating
information as requested by the Board.
