I work in a museum where we have also have pottery on display. We stablize it with plexi mounts and monofiliment thread. The preparators are quite creative and custom design each one. One example, the preparator fit a rectangular piece of plexi (1"x5")vertically, molding it to the piece of pottery's countours and drilling it's base to the floor of the case. They adhered felt to the plexi as a barrier to protect the pottery from abrasion. Then a piece of monofiliment was wrapped and tied around the neck of the piece and through a small hole drilled into the plexi piece. If anyone bumped into the case the piece of pottery would be stable. Hope this idea helps! Wish I could draw a picture!
