The Northeast Document Conservation Center presents Preservation 101:
An Internet Course on the Basics of Paper Preservation

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) is offering a free
Internet course on basic paper preservation to small collections-holding
institutions and private collectors, including historical organizations,
town records offices, libraries, archives, and museums. The course is
designed to assist collections care staff to understand better the nature of
paper collections and causes of deterioration. With a focus on preventive
preservation, the program will provide basic information and practical
solutions to help improve storage, care, and handling and will also address
disaster preparedness. The course is funded by NCPTT, National Center for
Preservation Technology and Training, U.S. Department of the Interior,
National Park Service.

Preservation 101 consists of six weekly programs to be posted January 24,
2000 through March 3, 2000 providing on-line readings and optional
assignments with bulletin board discussion, questions, and interaction with
the faculty and other participants. The course will be presented by Karen
E.K. Brown, NEDCC s Field Service Representative, with technical assistance
from Webmaster Kim O Leary. Registration is limited to 150 participants and
will be restricted to one applicant per institution, so register early!

All applicants must have a computer with a minimum 14400 modem and access to
the Internet (Netscape or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher), and email. To
register, visit NEDCC s Web site at <www.nedcc.org>, and click on the
Calendar. Confirmation of acceptance will be emailed by January 7, 2000.
