POSITION AVAILABLE:     Manager of Interpretation and Exhibits

Classification:   Full time/Exempt

Department:        Education and Public Programs

General Summary: 
Responsible for implementing the Arboretum's Interpretive Plan, including development and supervision of the exhibit program.  Coordinate and develop exhibit-related temporary and semi-permanent displays in public areas, gardens, and collections, and placement of indoor and outdoor directional and interpretive signs. Lead interpretive planning and implementation for the Central Area Plan.  Coordinate all road and trail wayfinding devices.

Job Qualifications: 
Previous Training and Experience 
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in education, museum studies, interpretation, museum exhibit design, or adult continuing education is strongly desired.  Three years of related work experience required.  Prior supervisory experience is essential.  Verifiable record in public programming highly desirable, especially museum programming.  Must have working knowledge of Windows based software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and e-mail programs.   

Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be physically able to move through the buildings and grounds.  Ability to gather data, hear and integrate various points of view, analyze information quickly and accurately, meet deadlines, and keep projects moving forward.  Above average speaking and writing skills necessary.  Ability and willingness to listen to and respond to the Arboretum's audiences. Position necessitates a customer service-oriented individual who is able to relate effectively with people of various backgrounds and disciplines.  Competence and experience in working with institutional staff in a team atmosphere leading to integrated, representative, and excellent group efforts essential.

Working Conditions
Combined indoor (75%) and outdoor settings (25%).
Requires significant physical activity: bending, standing, sitting, lifting, and carrying (up to 30 lbs.).
Involves significant amount of walking on all types of terrain.
Travel by car, train, and airplane.
